As part of the RISE project, run in conjunction with the Virtual Schools Team and Junior University, a number of Year 9 and 10 pupils from schools across Oldham took part in a 10 week programme. This aimed to raise students' awareness of Further and Higher Education whilst raising students' aspirations and providing them with valuable life skills.
Pupils took part in lots of different activities with the mentors, including a trip to Huddersfield University where they saw life-sized prosthetic models and a trip to the Aviation Viewing Centre where they got to try on different uniforms for jobs at the airport! Some students even managed to scramble right to the top of the wall at Manchester Climbing Centre.
After the activities, the students gave presentations to their parents, carers and staff from schools about what they had learned over the 10 weeks. All the students who took part did extremely well and delivered their presentations in a very professional manner.
As a reward for all their hard work, the students went on a trip to the Chill Factor where most of them managed to stay upright whilst snowboarding down the slopes.
All the students had a lot of fun on the project, making friends and developing their interpersonal skills. Lots of students asked if they can come again next year!

Week 8 – Tuesday 18th November - Students write up their experiences and prepare for presentations
Week 9 – Tuesday 25th November - Students write up their experiences and prepare for presentations
Week 10 – Tuesday 16th December – Presentations given to parents, careers and school staff, trip to Chill Factor
