New role for mentor in schools
Hi. I am a new addition to the Junior University Team adding a slightly different flavour to the project. I am a recent graduate of Loughborough University with a First Class Degree in Mathematics & Sports Science. I will be working in local schools with students giving them advice and guidance on post-16 education like the other mentors, but I am also aiming to raise students’ mathematical ability at a vital stage in their careers. I have now started this new initiative and I am going into Breezehill, Counthill, Grange and Kaskenmoor, working with small groups of students in their usual Maths lessons to give them more one-to-one support. I hope to help these students achieve their potential to pass their GCSE Maths. So far, I have had very positive feedback from the students involved who say they have enjoyed the classes, they find it easier to concentrate in a smaller class and have benefited from the one-to-one contact time they have received.
By the end of the summer term, I hope to have had a positive effect on all the students I have worked with so that they are well prepared to take the next step in their careers and have that vital A*-C GCSE Maths grade that they all deserve.
