This is a celebration of the work of Oldham Sixth Form College students. It is the ninth exhibition we have been able to hold at the Saddleworth Museum; there are a large number of young artists whose first opportunity to exhibit their work was here, by the canal.

On the 19th February we launched our Arctic Monkeys competition in conjunction with The Oldham Evening Chronicle and Millenium Concert Travel. The competition offered JU users the chance to win 2 tickets for the upcoming Arctic Monkeys concert at Old Trafford cricket ground.

On the 22nd January the Junior University ran the "The Missing Mentor" competition, we asked what was the name of Oldham Athletic's football ground. The correct answer is Boundary Park. Out of 145 entrants David Linsley of Hulme Grammar School was our lucky winner.

The all new “Ask Us ” section is here. You can now “Ask Us” from our students and our mentors. We have 5 students from Oldham 6th Form College ready to answer any questions you may have. We also have 6 mentors who are all graduates so they have all been through the aches and pains of college and university life.

As you may or may not be aware there are many careers available to you within the engineering industry, these range from; aerospace engineer, biomedical engineer through to sound engineers.

New role for mentor in schools |

I will be working in local schools with students giving them advice and guidance on post-16 education like the other mentors, but I am also aiming to raise students’ mathematical ability at a vital stage in their careers.

Competition Winner |

Katherine Carr of Oldham Sixth Form College and North Chadderton School was our lucky winner. Junior University mentor Rebecca Rogers presented her with the prize on Friday 15th December. Katherine said "I saw an email advertising the competition, it looked interesting so I decided to give it a go, the prize was very tempting, I'm thrilled to have won."

The newest member of the team is Abdul who was previously a Junior University Resource Technician. Abdul joined the team in September 2006. The Oldham College Visit |

As part of the Junior University Project, students initially mentored in year 11 are given the opportunity to see a JU Mentor once they have made the transition to post 16 studies. As a result mentors spent a week in The Oldham College conducting interviews and catching up with students to ensure that they were enjoying College and were coping with the transition from school.> Full Story |
