Finding the university or college which is right for you means that you have to spend time finding out
about the institutions offering your chosen courses and the best place to start is the prospectus or website.
To find out a list of the universities who offer Earth Science related courses here’s what you have to do:

  • Go to www.ucas.com and select ‘course search’ from the main screen and select courses starting in 2009 (or whichever year is applicable to you).
  • Select the first ‘search’ option.
  • If you enter Geography in the subject box you will get a list of all of the universities that offer Geography courses plus all the related courses.
  • You can narrow this search down by region, course type or any other criteria relating to your personal preferences of where you study or what you would like to study.

Try finding out the answers to the following questions to give you a better idea of whether the institution is the right place for you or not, which should help you to make the right decision on where to study:

  • Where the institution located is (is it in a town or self-contained campus?)
  • What style of university will suit me best?
  • How far or close is it to home (this is an important factor because of the impact living costs have on your finances).
  • How much does it cost to live in the halls of residence or in private accommodation?
  • How much does it cost to travel to the university or college from the student accommodation or from home?
  • What courses and combination of courses are on offer and are there residentials, visits or work-experience?
  • How many students are there?
  • What leisure opportunities are there and what is the social life like?
  • Are there any bursaries or scholarships for undergraduates in your subject area?
  • How good are the facilities – libraries, computers, teaching equipment?
