Throwing Rules

1. Stand at the start line with the whizzle ball in your dominant hand.
2. Throw the whizzle ball as far as you can in front of you using an over arm throw.
3. The distance from the start line to the point where your whizzle ball finishes moving will be measured.
4. No run up will be allowed.

Practice Coaching points
1. Sitting over arm throw. a. The longer your arm is in contact with the ball, the further it will travel.
a. Sit down on the floor opposite your partner about 2 metres away. b. Start from a position where all your weight (and your arm) is back.
b. Throw a soft ball to your partner. c. Use your trunk to first bring your body forwards.
c. They must catch the ball and return it to you without either of you moving from your spot on the floor. d. Your arm should come through fast and last.
d. If both catches were successful, both take a step back and repeat.    
e. See how far you can sit away from each other while both of you catch.    
 
Practice Coaching points
2. Standing throw. a. Place the opposite foot to your throwing arm up to the line.
a. See how far you can throw a ball. b. Make sure all your weight is on your back foot to start.
b. Mark yourself a starting line. c. Have your arm stretched out behind you.
c. Put one foot up to this line. d. Drive off your back leg first.
d. Throw a ball as far as you can – be careful you don’t hit any one. e. Rotate your hips forward.
e. Your feet must not cross your line at any point during the throw. f. Present your chest to the direction of the throw.
f. Place a marker where it landed. g. Bring your arm through fast and last.
g. Try to beat your throw. h. The ball should be brought through from a low to a high position.
 
Practice Coaching points
3. Whizzle Throwing a. Make sure you bring the Whizzle ball through straight over your shoulder.
a. Try the above practice using a Whizzle Ball (a modified javelin which can be purchase from shops such as Woolworth's)
