Hockey Weave Rules

1. Start at the cone lying down on your front with your hockey stick and ball in front of you.
2. After the signal ‘get ready’ and on the word ‘go’ stand up, reach for your hockey stick and dribble the ball straight ahead towards the cone in front. You may use either side of your stick to do this.
3. Dribble the ball around this cone and head for the bottom middle cone.
4. Dibble around this cone weaving in and out up the middle cones.
5. When you arrive at the top middle cone, dribble around it and head back down towards the bottom right cone.
6. Dribble the ball around this cone and straight ahead towards the finish cone.
7. Time will start on the word ‘go’ and stop when you, your ball and your stick cross the finish line.
8. During the course you must not:
    • Kick the ball
    • Pick the ball up
9. Both you and your ball must manoeuvre around the cones.
10. Any breakage in the above rules will result in a penalty. This will be indicated by a whistle. Your ball will be taken back to the point where the error occurred and you will continue from this point.

Practice Coaching points
1. Dribbling. a. Place both your hands wide apart on the stick.
a. Set yourself a target about 10 metres away. b. Bend your knees so your bums not sticking up.
b. Dribble your ball towards this target. c. Keep your head up so you can see where you are going.
c. Time how long it takes you – try to beat your time. d. Keep your ball slightly in front and to the side of you at all times.
 
Practice Coaching points
2. Shadow. 1. Uni hoc technique
a. Get someone to stand 3 metres in front of you also dribbling a ball. a. Keep you head up and bend you knees.
b. Ask them to move either left or right still remaining facing you. b. Quickly place your stick at the other side of the ball to change direction.
c. You must copy their movements as quickly as you can c. Still keep the ball slightly in front and to the side of you.
 
Practice Coaching points
3. Weave. 1. Uni hoc technique
a. Set out four object in a line 2 metres apart. a. Keep you head up and bend you knees.
b. Start at the first object and dribble your ball forwards in and out of the objects. b. Quickly place your stick at the other side of the ball to change direction.
c. Get someone to time how long it takes you to get to the last object and back. c. Still keep the ball slightly in front and to the side of you.
