These master classes are intended to aid students (of many abilities) through part of the Sociology AS syllabus. These classes are aimed at students who have already been taught the 2 topics. These master classes have been developed to help review and revise the topics. They are set out as follows…

The aim of these 45 minute lessons is to guide students through 2 key areas that they should be familiar with (although they will be able to understand it if the topic is new to them). The first is part of unit 1, the topic of ‘families and households’. The second area is part of the unit 2 topic ‘education’. |

Unit 1 - The aim of this lesson is to introduce the key ideas of social construction. This is linked to age and the notion of the social construction of childhood. This lesson will concentrate on reviewing the key ideas, looking at western ideas of childhood and looking at cross-cultural evidence to suggest that childhood is socially constructed.

Unit 1 - The aim of this lesson is to continue with the idea of social construction. The lesson will look at historical differences as well as exploring the reasons why the modern idea of childhood developed. |

| Unit 2 - The aim of this lesson is to review and revise the topic of gender and education. The main focus of this lesson will be on reasons why girls have improved. |
