Aim Higher is designed to improve your awareness of Higher Education courses. It also aims to raise your aspirations and encourage you to continue with higher level study after college.

At OSFC Aim Higher is all about encouraging and motivating all of you to set your sights on university or college to do a Higher Education course.

There are lots of things that you can do as part of Aim Higher at Oldham Sixth Form College. Here are a few examples:

(See left menu)

These groups are for those of you who are achieving good grades in the subject you know you want to study at university. The groups provide a chance for you to extend your knowledge of the subject beyond what you've been taught in class. The group will also help you with the university application process and encourages you to apply to more competitive universities.

Aim Higher Conference

The conference happens in the last term of the academic year. The college hosts a day where many universities, colleges and employers come in to talk to you about opportunities they provide. This also includes information about Higher Education courses. There are also sessions for you on how to write your personal statements, which are part of the application process for H.E. courses.

Aim Higher Day

This is a day for any of you who are studying GCSE and Intermediate level courses. The aim is to make you aware of and interested in staying on at college to do further study. On this day you will learn about the A level, Applied A level and BTEC courses you can go on to study after GCSE or Intermediate level, which will ultimately help you get on to a Higher Education course.

Oxbridge Group

The purpose of the Oxbridge group is firstly to help you to consider whether or not you would like to go to Oxford or Cambridge universities. You will have talks about Oxbridge, go to Open Days and may attend Summer Schools. Once you have made the decision to apply to these universities, then the group supports you through the application process, including help with interviews.

These groups are for those of you who are doing applied or vocational subjects which you would like to go on to study at university. The groups will help ensure you are prepared for study in Higher Education. In addition, the groups will also provide a chance for you to learn more about HE courses and the application process.
