Course Outline

The Aim Higher Programme is a nationwide initiative and is a new scheme at the college. It aims to help you extend your knowledge of the subject you wish to study at University, develop your own interests in the subject and help with your application to University.

If you expressed an interest in studying a Media/Film related subject and you have achieved excellent progress in your studies, you will be offered a place on the scheme.

The Aim Higher group meets for one hour a week (the times will be mutually agreed by all those who wish to take part).

The work undertaken will be a mixture of discussion, analysis, theory and project work, all of which will be closely related to the types of course content you will come across at University. We also aim to offer opportunities to take part in a range of media events as well as helping organise appropriate work experience.

Current topics and opportunities have included:

  • Where to study media/film at University
  • Writing personal statements
  • Cultural Diversity
  • Representations of Class, Race, Disability and Sexuality
  • Trip to Imperial War Museum to take part in Radio 1 debate on War and Peace
  • Trip to BBC Mentor project open day and support with applications
